Poland seeks nuclear sites

WARSAW, Poland, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said so far, no suitable sites for planned nuclear plants have been found.

"I hope that by the end of next year we will make related decisions. For starters, we plan to construct two nuclear plants. As we can see, states sure of their energy security run not two or five but 30, 40 and 50 nuclear plants," Tusk told the Polish Press Agency.

The statement comes two weeks after Jan Kozlowski, the speaker of the Pomorskie province, asked Tusk to allow the construction of a nuclear plant in his province.

Pomorskie imports 70 percent of its energy from southern and central Poland. Construction of a nuclear plant in Zarnowiec was started in 1982 but left unfinished in 1989 after protests from ecologists and locals.
