LONDON, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- British firm BP announced it will leave plans in the United Kingdom for investment in the United States.
The oil giant called wind power and other opportunities in the United States "more attractive" than those in the United Kingdom, New Energy Focus reported.
BP will leave its planned U.K. wind projects for the United States just as the Chinese firm Goldwind, which manufactures turbines, announced yesterday.
In preparation, BP launched a partnership with U.S. wind turbine manufacturer Clipper in July to develop a massive 5 gigawatt wind farm in South Dakota.
BP also announced it will not be moving forward with the carbon capture and storage competition and will pull out of the United Kingdom's competition to build the world's first commercial-scale carbon capture and storage plant.
BP, however, is working with Rio Tinto to build a 400-megawatt hydrogen power station in California that will use CCS technology to remove carbon from petroleum coke and coal.
