BERLIN, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- Germany's largest utility, E.ON, announced it will work with France's Commissariat a L'Energie Atomique.
The two will cooperate on uranium research, reactor technology and safety, and development of new power generation.
"Nuclear power as a carbon dioxide-free energy resource is of particular importance in climate protection. In Germany alone, power stations avoid 150 million tons of carbon dioxide and are one of the most efficient ways to reduce CO2 output," said Wulf Bernotat, chief executive officer of E.ON.
Bernotat pointed out that in times of volatile energy prices, it is important to keep investments stable and continue to develop new energy sources.
Interest in nuclear power is increasing in European countries and expanding into more developing nations as well.
