NEW DELHI, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Leaders in India's wind industry have said $27 billion will be invested over the next four years.

Chairman of the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association D.V. Giri said the focus on renewable energy sources has been increasing.

"The installed capacity of wind power in the country by the end of year 2012 would reach 22,000 megawatts," Giri said.

The current installed wind capacity is nearly 9,600 megawatts, with about 11,000 megawatts in additional capacity expected by the end of 2012.

Indian Minister of State for Renewable Energy Vilas Muttemwar said there are already 216 potential locations identified for wind projects.
