LONDON, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- U.K.-based utility Centrica announced it has acquired British company Semplice Energy.

Semplice is a low-carbon solutions company, and it was acquired by Centrica through its British Gas New Energy division for $2.5 million.

"This is another step forward in our development of a broad range of energy efficiency and low-carbon capabilities we can offer business and domestic customers. Semplice Energy will help us in the delivery of these services," said Gearoid Lane, managing director of British Gas New Energy.

Semplice Energy provides clean technology solutions in the United Kingdom through consulting, design and systems integration. It works to help businesses reduce their energy use and invest in clean generation to develop commercially viable carbon dioxide emissions reductions.
