ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- Pakistani officials have said the country will be able to produce another 1,000 megawatts of wind power.
Irfan Afzal Mirza, the country's director of the Technical Alternative Energy Development Board, told the News International that 23 new projects have been approved, each with the capacity to produce 50 megawatts of power. The projects are expected to be completed within about four years.
Mirza said work already is being done on acquiring the necessary investments to begin the projects, and eight have completed their feasibility studies.
Three investors are negotiating with India's Suzlon for 100-megawatt wind turbines. The first wind turbine, capable of generating 6 megawatts, is expected to be up and running by the end of November.
