NEW DELHI, Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said obtaining nuclear power would end India's global nuclear isolation.

He said there is a global community involved in nuclear power and in addressing global climate change, but up until now, India has been left out. Singh also said that nuclear energy will provide a clean solution to the country's energy security and climate change challenges, Indian business newspaper The Economic Times reported.

After a deal with the United States to support civilian nuclear power in India, the Indian government is awaiting a meeting with the Nuclear Suppliers Group.

Nuclear power would allow the government to provide everyone with electricity, including farmers, and it would also provide new job opportunities for scientists and researchers, Singh said.

Singh told The Economic Times he hopes the NSG will approve the India-U.S. nuclear deal.
