OTTAWA, July 18 (UPI) -- The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency announced funds for nuclear assessments.

The CEAA said in a news release it will provide up to $175,000 for the environmental assessment of the recently proposed Bruce Power nuclear plant project in Kincardine, Ontario.

The funding is aimed at helping project applicants review the Environmental Impact Statement. The CEAA said the money also could be used by applicants to participate in public hearings.

Bruce Power is seeking proposals for site preparation, construction and decommissioning of a new nuclear plant.

The CEAA said it will form a funding review committee to decide which applicants will receive funds.

Applicants may apply through the CEAA's Web site.
