CAMBRIDGE, Mass., July 17 (UPI) -- The Massachusetts Institute of Technology has improved solar cells.

Research being done at the school has found that coating glass with dye absorbs light and transmits it to photovoltaic cells at the edges of the glass.

Scientists at MIT said the new technology could significantly reduce the cost of solar power, Discover magazine reported.

The invention is believed to be easy to commercialize and easy to install. Solar power, along with other renewables, has been gaining popularity as the price of oil and gas continues to rise.
