VILLESEQUE-DES-CORBIERES, France, July 16 (UPI) -- French firm EDF Energies Nouvelles has said it will build one of its largest wind farms.

In a recent announcement, EDF said it has plans to commission one of the largest wind farms in France in Villeseque-des-Corbieres.

The company said the site will be home to 22 wind turbines, each 2.3-megawatt, from German manufacturer Enercon. The total capacity of the project is estimated at 50.6 megawatts.

EDF said in its announcement the site was chosen for its strong winds. The project could provide enough energy from wind to power about 75,000 homes.

With rising oil prices and increased investments in wind power, EDF said this project will be the first in a series of large wind farms over the next year.
