LONDON, March 21 (UPI) -- Britain said it will remain the world's leading donor to the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership.

REEEP is an international partnership between governments and funds the global renewable energy market.

Energy Minister Energy Malcolm Wicks announced British contributions for the coming year at nearly $5 million. The financial commitment is part of a three-year total commitment of nearly $18 million, Environment Minister Phil Woolas said.

Since its inception in 2004, REEEP has added donors, including Norway and Australia. Its focuses include reducing carbon dioxide emissions, improving energy security and ensuring access to clean energy through supportive legislation and regulatory and financial frameworks.

The partnership currently has more than 200 members.
