India's hydropower potential at 150,000 MW

NEW DELHI, March 3 (UPI) -- India's total hydroelectric power potential has been assessed at about 150,000 megawatts, said Vilas Muttemwar, minister for new and renewable energy.

In a statement, he said total hydroelectric power potential was assessed at about 150,000 MW equivalent to 84,000 MW at 60 percent load factor.

He said the potential of small hydropower projects up to 25 MW was estimated at 15,000 MW and that of wind power 45,000 MW.

He said small hydropower projects of 2,061 MW and wind power projects of 7,940 MW have been set up in different parts of the country.
