U.S., China cooperate on clean energy

BEIJING, Jan. 11 (UPI) -- Chinese-U.S. talks on clean energy will get funding this summer.

The clean energy cooperative projects between China and the United States are worth about $10 billion. The joint industry is expected to begin at the end of 2008, said Yao Wenping, vice chairman of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products.

Earlier in January a forum about the cooperation between the two countries on clean energy was opened in Beijing. David Bohigian, assistant secretary of the U.S. Department of Commerce, came with representatives from 16 U.S. companies looking for clean energy cooperators.

In April the China Import and Export Fair will be held in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou. There, machinery and electronic product manufacturers will have their showcases on clean energy and in September, a similar exhibition will be held in Guangzhou, in order to foster the cooperation between companies from China and other countries, especially the United States. China has a very large demand for raw materials, equipment and technology about clean energy, Yao said.
