Baby Panda born at Taipei Zoo meets mom for the first time

The Taipei Zoo is celebrating the arrival of Yuan Zai, a giant panda bear cub who is the first panda to ever born in Taiwan.

Yuan Zai, a female, was born on July 6, 2013 at 183.4 g in weight and 15.5 cm in length.

According to the HuffPo, there are less than 1,600 pandas left in the wild and they're especially hard to raise in captivity.

In addition to mothers having a small breeding window, cubs are highly susceptible to disease and smothering from their considerably larger mothers as can be attested in the clip of Yuan Yuan meeting Yuan Zai below.
