Try as they might, neither the Redington Beach visitors nor the helpless dolphin were able penetrate past the breakers and the powerful currents that had separated the mammal from its friends. They called the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission onto the scene and wildlife officials were able to transport the four-foot dolphin to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium via a rescue van.
Officials say the dolphin will get a full medical checkup at the aquarium. Dolphins that get caught in the surf and washed ashore are usually ill -- beset by parasites or pneumonia.
The rescue operation was caught on film and posted to YouTube over the long weekend.
