The female panda named Lin Ping, born at Thailand's Chiang Mai Zoo in May 2009, will leave Thailand in October to adjust to more natural surroundings in China and find a mate for breeding from February-May 2014, Thai Foreign Affairs Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul said Friday.
Once she has been joined by a mate, China will send Lin Ping and her mate to Thailand and the Chiang Mai Zoo where they will be in residence for 15 years under an agreement between the countries, the Bangkok Post reported.
Lin Ping has become one of the most popular animals in Thailand, and for a time even had her own cable television channel broadcasting live around the clock from her enclosure at the zoo.
Lin Ping lives at the zoo with her parents, Chuang Chuang and Lin Hui.
