BALIKPAPAN, Indonesia, May 4 (UPI) -- Port security workers in Indonesia said they seized about 2,000 turtle eggs and were trying to determine who shipped them.

Police in Balikpapan seized the eggs, which came from Bau Bau, a city in southern Indonesia where the reptiles are seen more frequently, the Jakarta Globe said Saturday.

Turtles are on the verge of extinction. Police said there's been a crackdown on illegal turtle egg smugglers recently.

In Balikpapan, the turtle eggs sell for about 120,000 rupiah ($12) per dozen.
