MOSCOW, Feb. 15 (UPI) -- After delays for technical problems, a Dutch telecommunications satellite has been launched from Russia's Baikonur Space Center in Kazakhstan, officials said.
A Russian Proton-M launch vehicle carrying the Dutch SES-4 satellite lifted off Tuesday, Russia's Federal Space Agency Roscosmos announced.
The initial launch set for Dec. 26 was postponed following the discovery of a problem with the avionics unit of the rocket's upper stage, RIA Novosti reported.
A second launch date of Jan. 28 was also put off because of an electrical problem in the launch vehicle's main stage.
The SES-4, built by U.S. company Space Systems/Loral for the Dutch operator SES World Skies, is designed to provide various satellite services to customers in the Middle East, Europe, Africa and Latin America.
The satellite has an intended life span of 15 years.
