NEW DELHI, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Microsoft's online store in India was targeted by hackers during the weekend and was still offline Monday, officials said.
Users visiting microsoftstore.co.in have been seeing the message: "The Microsoft Store India is currently unavailable. Microsoft is working to restore access as quickly as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused."
Following the hacking, the Web site home page was replaced with an image of a hooded individual wearing a Guy Fawkes mask, considered the symbol of hacker collective Anonymous, with the text "Evil Shadow Team" at the bottom, PC Magazine reported.
A member of Evil Shadow Team known as 7z1 posted on his blog that he was a "patriotic" hacker.
The hackers accessed the site's database, including passwords, and later uploaded a file named evil.html that contained the data.
U.S.-based Microsoft told the Times of India it is investigating the cyberattack and has sent customers warnings about the intrusion.
