A third of Americans need coffee to work

NEW YORK, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Almost a third of Americans say they need a cup of coffee to get through their workday, a survey shows.

The survey found the workers most dependent on their daily jolt of caffeine are nurses, followed by doctors and hotel workers, CBS News reported.

Young people are the biggest age group consuming a morning cup of coffee, with 43 percent of workers aged 18-to-34 saying they had less energy if they didn't.

Regionally, the most Americans relying on coffee live in the Northeast, with 48 percent of those surveyed saying they are less productive without it, compared to 45 percent in the South, 44 percent in the West and 34 percent in the Midwest.

More than 3,600 workers were surveyed online for the poll released by CareerBuilder.com and Dunkin' Donuts.
