KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla., July 9 (UPI) -- The six Discovery astronauts visited Kennedy Space Center in Florida for hands-on training with equipment they'll be using during their 11-day space mission.
The crew's 3-day training schedule at the center, which ends Saturday, is standard pre-flight training called the Crew Equipment Interface Test, Florida Today in Melbourne reported.
Accompanied by trainers from Johnson Space Center in Texas, the astronauts worked in the Space Station Processing Facility, reviewing some of the hardware they'll fly to the International Space Station in four months. The hands-on training also includes visiting Discovery's hangar, Orbiter Processing Facility-3, to review the spacecraft's crew cabin, payload bay and other systems, center officials said.
The Discovery astronauts will return to Kennedy Space Center for a launch countdown rehearsal Oct. 15 ahead of a scheduled Nov. 1 launch, the newspaper said.
Discovery's mission is one of two more scheduled before assembly of the space station is completed and the shuttle program ends.
The shuttle Endeavour is scheduled to launch Feb. 26.
