OTTAWA, June 22 (UPI) -- The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says some recently recalled roast beef and corned beef products might have been resold at some retail outlets.
The CFIA said the products were originally recalled earlier this month by Smith's Quality Meats because of possible contamination by Listeria monocytogenes bacteria.
"As part of the CFIA's recall monitoring activities it was identified that, due to misunderstanding, some independent stores may not have removed the recalled products as was intended," CFIA officials said. Those stores are located in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Nunavut, Northwest Territories and the Yukon.
Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled, but can cause listeriosis, a foodborne illness, officials said.
