WASHINGTON, June 7 (UPI) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the recall of some frozen raw shrimp sold at Hannaford Supermarkets and Bloom stores due to a labeling error.
The FDA said the distributor, the Eastern Fish Co. of Teaneck, N.J., said the frozen raw extra jumbo shrimp imported from Mexico might contain undeclared sulfites, posing a health risk for people allergic to sulfites,
The shrimp were sold at Hannaford stores in New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine, and to Bloom stores in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Maryland.
The fish sold May 4-June 4 by Hannaford were labeled "Hannaford Raw Shrimp Extra Jumbo E-Z Peel Shrimp," with a code of PGC33509, PGC33609, PGC33709, PGC33809, PGC34109 or PGC34209.
The shrimp sold April 8-June 4 at Bloom stores were labeled "Bloom Private Brand Frozen Raw Extra Jumbo Shrimp" with codes PGC33109, PGC33409 or PGC33509.
Consumers can return any of the recalled products for a refund.
