Generic beef, stroganoff mixes recalled

OAK PARK, Mich., April 28 (UPI) -- MiDAS Foods International announced the recall of its generic instant beef soup dry mix and instant beef stroganoff sauce mix due to possible contamination.

The Oak Park, Mich., company said the product might be contaminated with salmonella bacteria, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections.

Although the mixes weren't distributed for retail sale, the company said it wants to make consumers who might inadvertently come across a package of the products aware of the recall.

The mixes were distributed to food service establishments in Florida and Tennessee.

The dry instant beef soup mix is packaged in brown cardboard cases with "Code: AS493060" and "Mfg. Date: MAR 10, 2010-01" printed on a brown label. The individual units in the box are white plastic sealed pouches with plain black lettering "Instant Beef Soup" at the top and the product code "AS493060" in the bottom right of the text.

The dry beef stroganoff mix is packaged in brown cardboard cases with "Code: AS605010" and "Mfg. Date: JAN 21, 2010-01" printed on a white label. There is a single, unlabeled clear plastic bag containing the mix inside the box.
