NGOs urge U.S. to fix world's water crisis

WASHINGTON, March 22 (UPI) -- The non-governmental organization InterAction said Monday the U.S. government should take steps to help solve the world's ongoing water crisis.

InterAction said in a release on World Water Day the United States should offer any available resources to aid the fight to provide clean water and basic sanitation throughout the world.

The group said if the international community is able to overcome the escalating water, sanitation and hygiene crisis in the world, the quality of life and health for people worldwide would improve.

Among the cost-effective options suggested by InterAction was the use of hand-dug wells and water filtering and purification.

"The U.S. government should contribute to the global effort to save hundreds of thousands of lives each year by doubling its commitment to water and sanitation, and integrating solutions to the water, sanitation and hygiene crisis with child survival interventions. It is an investment in future generations worth making," InterAction said in its release.
