Frontier-brand spices recalled in Canada

OTTAWA, March 17 (UPI) -- The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning people not to consume some Frontier-brand seasonings and spices because of possible contamination.

The CFIA said the U.S. manufacturer -- Frontier Natural Products of Norway, Iowa -- initiated the recall because the products contain black pepper that might contain salmonella bacteria.

Being recalled are Frontier-brand garlic and herb blend, Greek seasoning blend, regular and muchi (hot) curry powder, spaghetti seasoning, Thai seasoning blend, veggie pepper blend, whole black peppercorns, Asian seafood seasoning, Mediterranean seafood and rotisserie seasonings and Toronto steak & chicken rub.

The products may have been distributed across Canada.

The CFIA said food contaminated with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled, but consumption can cause salmonellosis, a food borne illness that can produce serious and sometimes deadly infections.
