Publix recalls some seasoning mixes

LAKELAND, Fla., March 11 (UPI) -- The Publix Super Markets chain says it is recalling four varieties of Publix-brand seasoning mixes because of possible contamination.

Company officials said the products were manufactured with hydrolyzed vegetable protein supplied by a Las Vegas company and which might be contaminated with a strain of salmonella bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections.

Being recalled are Publix-brand mushroom gravy, meatloaf seasoning, beef-flavored stew and au jus gravy mixes.

The products were sold at the company's more than 1,000 stores in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee.

The recalled products maybe returned for a refund. Consumers with questions can contact the company at 800-242-1227.
