Roger Wakimoto named NCAR director

BOULDER, Colo., Jan. 27 (UPI) -- The associate director of the National Center for Atmospheric Research, Roger Wakimoto, has been named the facility's new director, effective Monday.

Wakimoto, currently a senior scientist at the National Science Foundation facility, is a geophysicist with expertise in tornadoes, thunderstorms and other types of severe weather.

A former professor of atmospheric sciences at the University of California-Los Angeles, Wakimoto succeeds Eric Barron, who has become president of Florida State University.
