Some College Inn chicken broth recalled

WASHINGTON, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- The Del Monte Co. says it is recalling all "best by" dates of its College Inn-brand "No MSG Chicken Broth" sold in 14.5-ounce cans due to a labeling error.

The recall was initiated because of the presence of wheat, an allergen, which was not declared in the ingredient listing. Del Monte officials also said the label incorrectly states the product does not contain monosodium glutamate.

All other sizes and varieties of College Inn-brand chicken broth are correctly labeled and are not affected by the recall.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said people who are allergic to wheat may run a risk of serious adverse health consequences by consuming this product. The company noted people without an allergy to wheat and without sensitivity to monosodium glutamate may safely consume the broth.

Consumers can contact the company at 800-552-7684 for more information and instructions on obtaining a replacement product.
