KENT, Ohio, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- Kent State University has been named the nation's second designated training facility for biosafety and biocontainment professionals.

The university's designation was conferred by the National Institutes of Health's National Biosafety and Biocontainment Training Program, making Kent the second facility in the country to receive that designation. As such, the university's Biosafety Training Lab becomes a continuing education training site to prepare biosafety and biocontainment professionals to meet the needs of the biomedical, emerging disease and civilian biodefense research communities.

The first facility to receive the designation was Kansas State University's Biosecurity Research Institute.

Kent's biosafety-biocontainment courses will be offered beginning in June.
