EMERYVILLE, Calif., Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Baby food manufacturer Plum Organics says it is recalling one lot of its apple and carrot portable pouch baby food due to possible bacterial contamination.

The Emeryville, Calif., company said the recalled baby food has a "best by" date of May 21, 2010, and is marked with universal product code 890180001221on the bottom of the package.

The recalled pouches of baby food were sold nationwide at Toys-R-Us and Babies-R-Us locations.

Company officials said the voluntary recall was undertaken as a precaution due to the risk of potential contamination with Clostridium botulinum, which can cause botulism, a serious and sometimes fatal condition.

No other Plum Organics products are affected by the recall.

Consumers with questions can contact the company at 888-974-3555.
