WASHINGTON, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Melon Acres Inc. of Oaktown, Ind., announced the recall of cantaloupes distributed through Farm-Wey Produce of Lakeland, Fla., due to possible contamination.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said the cantaloupes might be contaminated with salmonella bacteria, which can cause series and sometimes fatal infections.

The company said the recalled cantaloupes were shipped to Aldi's Supermarket in Greenwood, Ind., and to Meijer Supermarkets in Lansing and Newport, Mich., and Tipp City, Ohio.
