HARDIN, Ill., Aug. 13 (UPI) -- A Hardin, Ill., man pleaded guilty to killing a bald eagle and a reward is being offered for information on another dead eagle, federals official said Thursday.
Jerry Kronable, 26, told a U.S. District Court judge in Springfield, Ill., he shot a bald eagle as it fed on a deer carcass. He was sentenced to pay a $5,000 fine, serve one year probation, and forfeit the .22 caliber rifle he used.
The eagle fell in a road where it was discovered, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said in a release.
An eagle carcass was found about 60 miles south of Hardin a week before the incident involving Kronable. A $10,000 reward was offered for information.
None of the people who led officials to Kronable would take the reward offered in that case, the release said.
Shooting a bald or golden eagle is prohibited even though the birds are no longer on the endangered species list.
