Canada recalls Pidy-brand peanut butter

OTTAWA, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning people not to eat Pidy-brand Pur Mamba peanut butter because it might be contaminated with aflatoxin.

The CFIA said the product, made in Haiti, is sold in one-pound plastic containers and was distributed in Quebec.

Aflatoxins are a group of toxic compounds produced by certain strains of fungi, officials said. It is a human carcinogen. Consumption of products containing aflatoxin can lead to serious health consequences including liver damage and possibly death.

The CFIA said the importer is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace.
