WASHINGTON, July 15 (UPI) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the recall of some Chang Farm-brand soy bean sprouts due to possible bacterial contamination.

The FDA said Chang Farm Inc. of Whatley, Maine, recalled its soy bean sprouts with a "sell-by" date of July 17 because of the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes contamination, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections.

The recalled product is packaged in 10-pound bags at the wholesale level and in 12-ounce plastic bags for retail sale. Only soy sprouts with a "sell-by" date of July 17 are being recalled.

The product was distributed to retail stores and wholesalers in Maine, Connecticut, New York and New Jersey.

Consumers with questions can contact the company at 413-665-3341 or 413-222-5519.
