WASHINGTON, June 29 (UPI) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says the Plainview Milk Products Cooperative is recalling two years of food products due to possible contamination.

The FDA said the Plainview, Minn., company is voluntarily recalling the instant non-fat dried milk, whey protein, fruit stabilizers and gums (thickening agents) that it has manufactured during the past two years, because they might be contaminated with salmonella bacteria.

The federal agency said the company sells its products to industry customers, including distributors and manufacturers, who may have incorporated them into their own products. None of Plainview's products were sold directly to the public.

"This is an ongoing investigation, and the FDA will update the public as new information emerges," officials said. "At this time, the FDA is not aware of products being recalled at the consumer level."

FDA investigators are working to track the distribution of the recalled ingredients to identify additional products that contain the possibly contaminated products.

Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections.
