Some Mexican-style cheeses are recalled

WASHINGTON, June 15 (UPI) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said a Reading, Mich., company is recalling various types of soft Mexican-style cheeses due to possible contamination.

The company, Torres Hillsdale Country Cheese LLC, said the cheeses might be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, which can cause Listeriosis, a potentially fatal disease.

A sample of queso fresco cheese tested by the FDA was found to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The cheeses, sold under the "Aguas Calientes" brand were distributed to retail stores and delis in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio and Wisconsin.

The potentially contaminated cheeses were Queso Asadero, Queso Oaxaca, Queso Fresco, Morral Adobera and Queso Requeson.

The FDA said the recall includes all expiration dates and the packaging might also include a label with the name "Torres Hillsdale Country Cheese LLC."
