MIAMI, May 28 (UPI) -- A woman in Miami says she should soon be able to take her newborn son home after doctors removed a 1.8-pound tumor from the infant's face.
Kimberly Robinson said thanks to two University of Miami doctors, her newborn Jordan was able to survive both life in the womb and a Caesarean birth despite the presence of the massive tumor, The Miami Herald reported Wednesday.
''The first time I saw him, I was only able to see his chin,'' Robinson said of her son, whose tumor is known as an epignathus teratoma.
After University of Miami obstetrician Dr. Elvire Jacques helped deliver Jordan safely on March 25, pediatric otolaryngologist Dr. Ramzi Younis and his team conducted operations to remove the tumor.
The 2-month-old child has since recovered from the surgeries and now Robinson and her husband, James Smith, are facing the likely possibility of taking Jordan home next week.
''It's a miracle. It was God,'' Robinson told the Herald of her child's recovery. "Every day is like, wow.''
