NASA to proclaim node name on Colbert show

WASHINGTON, April 13 (UPI) -- The U.S. space agency's newest International Space Station module, to be launched this year, is about to get a name.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration said the announcement will be made Tuesday night by astronaut Sunita "Suni" Williams on Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report."

The name was selected from thousands of suggestions submitted on NASA's Internet site during the "Help Name Node 3" poll that closed March 20. People were asked to choose one of four NASA options or offer their own suggestion.

NASA was to have announced the name April 28, after the module arrived at the Kennedy Space Center. But the node's arrival has been delayed, so the announcement was moved to April 14.

The show's producers offered to host the name selection announcement after host Stephen Colbert urged his followers to post the name "Colbert." Although he was the top vote getter, capturing 230,539 votes of more than 1 million cast, NASA isn't obligated to follow the voters' preference and will make its own decision.

"I certainly hope NASA does the right thing," said Colbert. "Just kidding, I hope they name it after me."
