WASHINGTON, March 24 (UPI) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says the Scotts Co. has expanded the recall of its wild bird food suet due to possible contamination.
The FDA said the Marysville, Ohio, company now includes an additional seven varieties of wild bird food suet products and additional manufacturing date codes of the five varieties previously recalled. The products might contain peanut meal from Peanut Corporation of America facilities in either Texas or Virginia and have the potential to be contaminated with salmonella bacteria.
The FDA said salmonella can affect animals and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated bird seed or pet food products. People handling wild bird food can become infected with salmonella, especially if they haven't thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the product or any surfaces exposed to the products.
In addition, Jay Robb Enterprises Inc. of Carlsbad, Calif., is recalling all of its peanut butter-flavored JayBars due to potential contamination with salmonella.
The recalled peanut butter JayBars were sold nationwide in retail stores and through online and phone orders.
