NASA preparing Discovery for launch

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla., March 13 (UPI) -- U.S. space officials say they're preparing the space shuttle Discovery for launch Sunday night from Cape Canaveral, Fla.

The shuttle's launch was postponed Wednesday after a gaseous hydrogen leak was discovered in the venting system outside the external fuel tank. NASA said the system is used to carry excess hydrogen safely away from the launch pad.

Repairs were under way Friday and the interface will be retested before Sunday's 7:43 p.m. launch attempt.

NASA said the mission management team will meet Saturday afternoon to make a final determination about Sunday's launch.

Discovery's mission to the International Space Station will involve the delivery of the space station's fourth and final set of solar array wings, NASA said Friday in a release.

The solar arrays will provide the electricity to fully power science experiments and support the station's expanded crew of six in May. The crew will also replace a failed unit for a system that converts urine to potable water.
