Gel to boost female libido tested

CLEVELAND, March 10 (UPI) -- U.S. researchers are testing the drug LibiGel to see if it will safely boost the libido of post-menopausal women.

The drug is a gel formulation of testosterone that delivers the hormone to the bloodstream through a once-daily application on the upper arm. It is designed to treat hypoactive sexual desire disorder, a common affliction for women who are past menopause, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported Tuesday.

The company said a Phase II clinical trial showed LibiGel significantly increased the number of satisfying sexual events by 238 percent.
