CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla., March 4 (UPI) -- The U.S. space agency says its latest Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite is undergoing final testing prior to its scheduled launch April 28.
The GOES-O satellite was developed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Once in orbit it will be designated GOES-14 and NASA will transfer operational responsibility to NOAA.
Officials said the GOES satellites continuously provide observations of 60 percent of the Earth's surface, providing weather monitoring and forecast operations, as well as a continuous and reliable stream of environmental information and severe weather warnings.
The satellite is to be lifted into orbit aboard a United Launch Alliance Delta IV Expendable Launch Vehicle from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.
