WASHINGTON, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- The U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency has joined scores of U.S. and Canadian companies recalling possibly tainted peanut butter products.
FEMA officials said packages of peanut butter distributed in emergency commercial meals kits as part of the recent disaster relief effort in Kentucky and Arkansas might contain peanut butter manufactured by the Peanut Corp. of America. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said it determined the contaminated peanut products were produced by a PCA plant in Blakely, Ga.
More than 30 companies announced recalls Wednesday. They included:
--Harry & David: Harry & David-brand nut cluster and pretzel rod products.
--Safeway Inc.: Orchard Valley Harvest-brand conventional and organic peanuts sold in Safeway "Nut Hut" kiosks.
--Unilever United States Inc.: Breyers-brand tin roof sundae ice cream products.
--Blue Ribbon Products Inc.: Three-pound containers of Ultimate Gourmet-brand peanut butter cookie dough.
--Hershey Creamery Co.: Half gallon packages of Goo Goo-brand peanut butter ice cream.
--Country Life Natural Foods: Milk-free and sugar-free carob peanut clusters, peanuts, fruit and nut clusters and bridge mix.
--Meadow Gold Dairy: Approximately 27,000 units of 56-ounce rounds and 10,300 round pints of Meadow Gold Herd-brand Laughter Tin Can Alley ice cream
--Amway Global Corp.: XS-brand chocolate nut roll energy bars.
--The Wonder Ice Cream Co.: Candy Blast-brand 10-ounce ice cream cups.
--Rich Products Corp.: Meijer- and Winn Dixie-brand fudge, vanilla and caramel round top cones.
--Natural Organics Inc.: Nature's Plus-brand products containing peanuts distributed in the United States, Aruba, Belgium, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Mexico, Norway, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Trinidad, the United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
