More peanut butter products recalled

WASHINGTON, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Hundreds of peanut products are being recalled as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration conducts a criminal investigation into a major Salmonella outbreak.

The FDA announced Friday it is involved in a criminal investigation of the Peanut Corp. of America for producing bacterial contaminated peanuts, peanut butter and peanut paste at its Blakely, Ga., facility.

Among the numerous recent recalls:

--The Walgreen Co.: Chocolate candy containing peanuts, including Walgreens-brand bridge mix, chocolate covered peanuts, caramel nut clusters and chocolate peanut clusters.

--The Velvet Ice Cream Co.: Round cones sprinkled with peanuts sold individually and in four-packs.

--Meijer Inc.: Two types of its Meijer-brand dry roasted peanuts and four types of its ice cream cones.

--The Kroger Co.: Kroger-, Ralphs- and Fred Meyer-brand nut topping.

--Hy-Vee Inc.: Party mix and peanut brittle.

--Country Maid Inc.: Classic Breaks-brand peanut butter cookie dough.

--Rain Creek Baking Corp.: Sinbad-, Michael's- and Rain Creek-brand peanut butter turtles, baskets and princesses desert products.

--Orchard Valley Harvest Inc.: Conventional and organic peanuts roasted and packed for sale in Safeway supermarkets.

--Arico Natural Food Co.: Arico-brand peanut butter cookies and bars sold in U.S. and Canadian stores.

--The Sara Lee Corp.: Chef Pierre-brand chocolate peanut butter silk pie.

--Turkey Hill Dairy: Turkey Hill-brand nutty caramel caribou frozen yogurt and chocolate nutty moose track, peanut brittle no sugar added and peanut butter mania ice cream.
