WASHINGTON, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- The U.S. recall of foods containing possibly tainted peanut butter has expanded to include additional products, including more dog treats.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said Carolina Prime Pet recalled four of its products that contain peanut butter produced by the Peanut Corp. of America. One of PCA's plants has been identified as the source of salmonella contamination of peanut butter and peanut butter paste used to manufacture assorted products.
The recalled treats, sold across the United States and Canada, have lot date codes between 081508 and 010909 and all contain peanut butter. They are 6-inch beef shanks, two-packs of hooves, 4- and 6-inch rawhide bones and 6-inch "healthy hide beef shanks."
Salix LLC, another manufacturer of rawhide dog chew products, recalled its 3-pack, 5-inch peanut butter-filled rawhide dog treats that were sold at PetSmart, Target and Wegmans Food stores in the United States and Canada with UPC 0-91093-33354-0.
Among other recalls announced this week:
--Aldi Inc. -- Grandessa peanut butter cookies.
--Creative Energy Foods Inc. -- various types of nutrition bars manufactured under labels including Can Do Kid, Isagenix Isalean, Nestle, Zone, Think Thin, Promax 70, Promax and Shaklee.
--Sopakco Inc. -- certain "Sure-Pak 12" meals, some of which were sold at stores specializing in emergency preparedness and camping gear.
--Jenny Craig Inc. -- "Jenny's Cuisine Anytime Peanut Butter Flavor Nutritional Bars" with UPC 6-55447-00934-7 sold in the United States and Puerto Rico.
The federal agency said major brands of jarred peanut butter are not involved in the recalls.
