Peanut butter recall still expanding

WASHINGTON, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says the recall of possibly contaminated peanut butter products has again been expanded.

The Kroger Co. announced the precautionary recall of its Private Selection Peanut Butter Passion ice cream in select stores. The peanut butter was supplied by the Peanut Corp. of America and might be contaminated with salmonella. The affected ice cream was sold in City Market, Fred Meyer, Fry's, King Soopers, QFC and Smith's stores.

Meijer Inc. announced a precautionary recall of its Meijer-brand peanut butter and jelly ice cream, as well as its peanut butter cup ice cream. The Perry's Ice Cream Co. of Buffalo, N.Y., also announced the recall of its products containing peanut butter.

The FDA said the Peanut Corp. of America, which supplied the peanut butter used in the recalled products, might be the source of salmonella-related illnesses.

Also being recalled are Clif-, ZbarR- and Luna-brand bars containing peanut butter, along with ZonePerfect-brand chocolate peanut butter bars and peanut toffee bars.

Abbott Nutrition announced a precautionary recall of its NutriPals peanut butter chocolate bars sold in the United States, Mexico, New Zealand and Singapore. Bars sold in Canada are not affected by that recall.

The FDA said major brands of peanut butter sold in jars are not affected by the recalls.
