NASA seeks space shuttle display ideas

WASHINGTON, Dec. 20 (UPI) -- The U.S. space agency is seeking ideas from schools and science museums for the eventual public display of space shuttle orbiters and other equipment.

National Aeronautics and Space Administration officials said they are asking all "appropriate organizations" about the community's ability to acquire and publicly display such items after the conclusion of NASA's space shuttle program.

NASA said in a statement this week that its Office of Infrastructure will use the information it gathers "to develop strategies for eventual placement of two space shuttle orbiters and a minimum of six unassembled space shuttle main engine display 'kits.'"

Officials said NASA also is seeking ideas about how the shuttle orbiters and shuttle main engines can best be used to inspire the American public and students in particular.
