PARIS, Nov. 12 (UPI) -- The European Space Agency says it is seeking student teams to fill vacancies in the Global Educational Network for Satellite Operations project.
ESA said GENSO is a software standard that allows each ground station on the network to communicate with non-local spacecraft and share data with the spacecraft controllers via the Internet.
"This will allow for a near global coverage in communication for every educational satellite launched, greatly increasing the return from educational space missions and the opportunities for sending commands to the spacecraft," the space agency said.
ESA said the call is open to students and amateur radio enthusiasts from any nation, although ESA said preference will be given to students from the member countries of the International Space Education Board, particularly if their participation is supported by their universities.
The deadline for applications is Dec. 19.
