Some smoked meat is recalled in Canada

OTTAWA, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning people not to consume Dunn's Famous-brand smoked meat because of possible contamination.

The CFIA said the manufacturer, Les Salaisons Desco Inc. of Boisbriand, Quebec, recalled the product because it might be contaminated with Staphylococcus toxin. Officials said such contaminated food might not look or smell spoiled, but can cause such maladies as nausea, fever, muscle cramping and changes in blood pressure and pulse. The CFIA noted the toxin produced by Staphylococcus bacteria is not easily destroyed at normal cooking temperatures.

The recalled product -- "Dunn's Famous brand Smoked Meat pouches" -- is sold in 1kg boxes bearing UPC 4 00007 55699 7 and a "Best Before" date of "2008 NO 13." A Canada logo with the number 501 also appears on the outside of the boxes that contain 6 plain wrapped smoked meat pouches.

The pouches were sold by British Columbia Costco stores in Surrey, Kelowna, Port Coquitlam, Langford, Langley and downtown Vancouver.
